2025 Becomes A Momentum For More Civil And Dignity Political Implementation

JAKARTA The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) hopes that 2025 will be a momentum for the Indonesian people to implement a more civilized and dignified social and political life.

According to the Secretary General of the MUI, Amirsyah Tambunan, 2025 should be an effort both for the people and the government to reflect on the meaning of better life (muhasabah) in society, nation and state to prepare for a better life.

"MUI encourages state leaders, political party leaders, and national leaders to implement more civilized politics, which is based on ethics and morals, which are oriented to create goodness and benefit for the realization of a just, prosperous Indonesia," he said in a written statement, Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

"MUI also urges and expects all parties to evaluate the political system and transactional political practices that have been happening so far to be more dignified," he continued.

MUI, continued Amirsyah, continues to support Prabowo Subianto's government through law enforcement officers, including the police, prosecutors, the KPK, courts to act decisively in enforcing the law, especially related to corruption cases.

He hopes that law enforcement officials can impose severe penalties on corruptors, especially large cases that are very detrimental to the finances of the state and the people. It is necessary to be sentenced to life imprisonment or death penalty. This is important for a deterrent effect, because corruption has actually caused a lot of harm to the nation and state and is a big obstacle in efforts to advance the country and prosper the people," he said.
