JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT) Soerjanto Tjahjono said that his party has now downloaded the black box data of Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 cockpit voice recorder (CVR). CVR was discovered a few days ago.

"On April 1, 2021, CVR data was successfully downloaded in KNKT Laboratory and obtained recordings of conversations for 2 hours including conversations of flights that had an accident", Soerjanto said in a statement, Tuesday, April 13.

From the downloaded data, there are four channels obtained. Unfortunately, the fourth channel was disrupted. However, Soerjanto said important data is still safe.

"However, based on the existing footage, it has added important data to the investigation that the results will be presented in the final report", he said.

Until now, the investigation process is still carried out by the KNKT team accompanied by a detailed research process. After the discovery of all parts of the black box, Soerjanto believes there will be enlightenment to be able to investigate the cause of the plane crash.

For information, the discovery of a black box containing a recording of a conversation between the pilot and the co-pilot was found just on the last day of the follow-up search. Further searches began on January 22, after a joint SAR operation led by the National Search and Relief Agency (Basarnas) was halted on January 21.

The crash of Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 with the Jakarta-Pontianak route began with a loss of contact in Kepulauan Seribu shortly after takeoff from Soekarno Hatta Airport on Saturday, January 9, 2020.

Furthermore, the authorities confirmed that the plane crashed around Laki Island and Lancang Island, Kepulauan Seribu around 2:40 p.m. local time.

The number of passengers who participated in the ill-fated flight consisted of 56 passengers and 6 crew members. From the beginning of the search until the SAR operation was closed, a total of 59 bodies have been identified by the National Police Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team.

Then, Sriwijaya air SJ-182 black box with flight data recorder (FDR) was found on January 12, 2021, by the combined SAR team. At that time, the FDR was immediately taken to KNKT for analysis.
