Vance Says U.S. Will Use Military, Economic and Diplomatic Tools to End Iran Conflict

JAKARTA - Vice President J.D Vance said the United States would use military, economic, and diplomatic means to resolve the conflict with Iran.

When asked in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday about the obstacles in negotiations with Iran, Vice President Vance mentioned two factors: "First, the Iranians are very difficult people to work with. Second, their system is divided."

"There are people in their system who want the war to end, but there are also extremist radical groups who want the war to continue," he said, quoted by Anadolu (6/8).

"Our job is to navigate that situation and achieve the best outcome for the American people and for the President of the United States," he added.

Vice President Vance expressed hope for a resolution of the conflict, but acknowledged that "the process will be complicated and time-consuming - but we will get there," adding that oil prices would "come down and stay low."

"Iran will never have nuclear weapons, and the United States will be in a stronger position," he explained.

"However, we will deploy all the means we have - both military, economic, and diplomatic - to ensure the proper resolution of this issue," said Vice President Vance.

This statement was made amid rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz following the recent military confrontation between the US and Iran.

Previously, US President Donald Trump said he preferred reaching an agreement with Iran rather than taking military action, although he also warned that the use of force remained an option if diplomacy failed.

The Middle East region escalated following the US-Israeli attack on Iranian territory on February 28, 2026, which was responded to with attacks on Israeli territory and US-related targets in regional countries.

On June 18, Washington and Tehran signed a framework agreement and began negotiations towards a final deal. However, the talks then stalled due to differences over security guarantees and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Last month, tensions escalated again when the US launched an attack in Iranian territory, while Tehran responded by targeting what they called US military facilities and equipment in several Arab countries, especially Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
