Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Affirms Iran's Support For Syria

JAKARTA - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday confirmed Tehran's unshakable support for Syria, according to IRNA's official news agency.

"Today I will go to Damascus to convey a message to the government of the Islamic Republic of Syria." AragCHI told reporters during the commemoration of Naval Day on Kish Island, southern Iran.

"We steadfastly support the Syrian military and government," he added.

"We believe that after the failure of the zionist regime (Israel), the enemy is working to implement malicious plans that could destabilize this region through these terrorist groups," the Iranian Foreign Minister said, referring to anti-regime groups in Syria.

Araghchi insists that "the Syrian army, once again will win over these terrorist groups as it has been in the past."

Fighting broke out between Assad regime forces and anti-regime armed groups on November 27 in the western countryside of Aleppo province in northern Syria.

Since last week, armed anti-regime groups have pushed in from the western countryside into the city center, and seized most of the region on Saturday.

The group took control of the city of Khan Shaykhun on Saturday and attempted to control Idlib.
