Ahead Of The 2024 US Presidential Election, Kamala Harris Wins Thin From Trump In The Latest Survey

JAKARTA - Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are competing closely in a survey or poll released a week before the 2024 United States (US) presidential election.

Based on a poll from Reuters/Ipsos launched on Tuesday, October 29, Harris is only 1 percent narrow ahead of Trump

A poll conducted on October 25-37 by Reuters/Ipsos showed 44 percent supported Harris as a Democratic candidate, while 43 percent supported Trump as a Republican candidate.

In this poll, it is stated that the margin of error is around three percentage points in both directions.

Although Harris has outperformed Trump in every Reuters/Ipsos poll since July 2024, his lead has continued to shrink since late September.

Previous Reuters/Ipsos polls conducted on October 16-21 show Harris, the current US Vice President, is two percent ahead of Trump.

While new polls, which surveyed 1,150 US adults across the country, including 975 registered voters, show Trump has a significant advantage over Harris on some issues deemed most urgent to be considered by voters.

Trump was in the lead position when respondents were asked which of the two candidates for the 2024 US Presidential Election had a better approach to the economy, unemployment, and employment. In that point, Trump won 47 percent of the vote compared to 37 percent.

Trump is also ahead of the economic issues raised during the campaign period considering the new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that 26 percent of respondents opted for jobs and the economy as the most pressing issue in the US, followed by 24 percent of political extremism and 18 percent of immigration.

Trump's biggest advantage in terms of policy may be on immigration issues, where he has promised tough rules to illegally deport mass migrants entering the US.

About 48 percent of respondents in this latest poll said Trump's approach to immigration was excellent, while the other 33 percent preferred Harris.

This poll also shows a reduced number of respondents looking at Harris on issues of political extremism.

With details of about 40 percent of respondents said Harris had a better approach in dealing with political extremism and threats to democracy, compared to Trump who was elected 38 percent.

In a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll on this issue, Harris is two percent superior. While in the previous poll on October 16-21, Harris was seven percent superior to Trump.

Harris and Trump are currently still campaigning to garner voters until the 2024 US Presidential Election is held on November 5.

Harris's campaign is raising issues regarding Trump's role when supporters of the former US President stormed the US Congress Building on January 6, 2021. The Trump crowd is trying to overturn the defeat of the presidential candidate they support in the 2020 US Presidential Election.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, Harris made a speech at the location where Trump's mob gathered before rioting at the US Congress Building.

Trump then responded by assuming Harris was very extreme trying to take over socialists over US institutions.
