Beware Of The Follow-up Disaster, Puan Maharani Asked The Search For Flood Victims In East Nusa Tenggara To Be Accelerated

JAKARTA - Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, asked the government to accelerate the process of finding victims and handling the flash flood disaster in East Nusa Tenggara, in order to be aware of further disasters.

According to him, coordination of disaster management by the regional government needs to be maximized by involving the SAR team in Flores and in the Province of East Nusa Tenggara, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) at the central and regional levels, and the National Army-National Police.

"Coordination of all SAR forces, and the closest SAR teams such as in Bali and West Nusa Tenggara. I hope to help the search for victims, it will continue,” said Puan in her statement, Monday, April 5.

The former Coordinating Minister for PMK also urged that the handling of emergency conditions related to the provision of drugs and food be optimized. Including trauma healing handling and handling of vulnerable communities (elderly, children, disabled, or special needs).

"Mobilize local and central resources. Mobilize the strength of the Regional Government/BPBD, National Army, National Police, the community, and all stakeholders to carry out emergency response," said Puan.

Puan also encouraged related parties to look for the causes of flash flood so that it does not happen again in the future. As well as alertness related to anticipation of further disasters.

"Improved disaster mitigation, the community, and local government, as well as local BNPB, are expected to be alert to extreme weather," said the PDIP politician.

The latest development of the flash flood disaster that occurred in East Flores Regency today at 05.00 western Indonesia time, hundreds of residents fled, dozens of other residents were missing, and dozens of residents died.

Based on the Geophysics, Climate, and Meteorology Agency (BMKG) data, 9 villages in four sub-districts were affected by the disaster. Meanwhile, 17 housing units were washed away, 60 houses were submerged in mud, and 5 bridges were broken.

The local BPBD continues to collect data and verify the impact of victims and damage to infrastructure.

In addition, BMKG has also released two tropical cyclone seeds that can have an impact on extreme weather. One of them is the potential for heavy rainfall and strong winds in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region this week, 3–9 April 2021.

Until today, Monday, April 5, there have been flash floods in the East Nusa Tenggara region.
