Russian Legislative Review Defendant In Certain Cases Undergo Military Mandatory

JAKARTA - The lower house legislature of the Russian Federal Council or the State Duma is working on new rules for defendants in certain cases serving in the military.

Citing Tass, Wednesday, September 18, the regulation is contained in a bill on the transfer of criminal responsibility for defendants of Russian citizens.

The bill has been submitted by the State Duma to the Supreme Court of Ruia since August 2024.

For defendants in certain case categories who are currently undergoing trial, the option of signing a military service contract is given.

This option if chosen automatically frees the defendant from the case but with a binding obligation until the mission is given complete.

Suspension of criminal proceedings, withdrawal of preventive measures, and termination of criminal processes are listed in the description of the bill.

Not only for those who have not received the verdict, the convict has been sentenced but has not yet been implemented in this bill if approved by the command of the military unit.

The bill was called for by the Head of the Duma Committee for State Establishment and Legislation, Pavel Krashennikov; Head of the Duma Committee for Defense, Andrey Kartapolov; and the head of the Federation Council Committee for Constitutional Legislation and State Establishment, Andrey Klishas.
