Sutiyoso Remembers The Call Of "Bang Yos" Initially From Rano Karno

JAKARTA - Former Governor of DKI Jakarta Sutiyoso recalled the beginning of his being called "Bang Yos" while serving as Governor of DKI Jakarta for the 1997-2007 period.

Apparently, the call "Bang Yos" was originally made by Rano Karno, who at that time was the star of the sitcom "The Doel of School Children."

"The most impressed thing, I never forget is that the name 'Bang Yos' is the one who gave it to Si Doel, that's what gave Bang Yos' name," said Sutiyoso when receiving a visit to the prospective governor-Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung-Rano Karno at the Bang Yos Museum, Jatisampurna, Bekasi, West Java, Thursday, September 5.

Sutiyoso reviewed that the greeting was revealed when he was about to move from Jalan Teuku Umar to Jalan Taman Suropati, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

At that time, Si Doel, Rano's nickname, initiated the parade to become the Governor of DKI Jakarta by riding andong and escorting an oplet vehicle.

"So much better known than my real name, yes to my grandson when asked 'who are you, your grandson Bang Yos'. Thank you, Si Doel, yes," he said.

Meanwhile, Sutiyoso admitted that he knew Pramono when he was Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP). His closeness continued when Pramono served as Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) of the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"He (Pramono) has also been to my house several times. In the past, Mbak Mega had, on his own, a long time ago, and also during the first period of Pak Jokowi's administration, together in the cabinet, he was the cabinet secretary, I was the head of BIN, so I got closer, that's it," explained Sutiyoso.

Continuing, Pramono assessed that Sutiyoso was one of the legendary former Governors of DKI Jakarta. Sutiyoso has been the one who initiated Transjakarta since 2004 with the rapid transit bus model. The idea of building another public transportation was also initiated by Sutiyoso.

"There are a lot of legacy, including Transjakarta, flats, including Giant Sea Wall. That's not new. One of the main initiators is Bang Yos. The LRT, MRT was also discussed during the Bang Yos era," he said.

"The excess is Bang Yos, his leadership is strong. But he also listens to his experts for that," he said.
