JAKARTA - West Bengal Congress President Adhir Ranjiran Chowdhury claims the parents of an intern who was raped at RG Kar Kolkata Hospital Medical School (RS) have been detained by the Indian police.
"I visited the families of doctors who died at their residence and spoke with them for a long time. The police have detained the family in house arrest. They do not allow them to leave the house under the pretext of various reasons. The police have been guarding around their [residential], CISF doesn't know about this," Chowdhury told reporters on Saturday 31 August, quoted from the Hindustan Times.
Chowdhury's visit comes amid a wave of protests against violence and security guarantees for doctors in India.
Chowdhury also claimed that the police, under instructions from the West Bengal government led by TMC, offered money to the victim's father so that his son's body would be cremated immediately.
"The Kolkata Police followed the direction of the state government having offered the father money while telling him that his daughter's body must be cremated immediately," Chowdhury said.
In this case, the Indian police have named the civilian volunteer police Sanjay Roy as a suspect.
Sanjay Roy raped and killed a female intern who was resting in the medical school hall of RG Kar Kolkata Hospital, Bengala, India, on Friday morning 9 August 2024.
