Megawati To Jokowi: Already, Well, I Want To Finish It, OK?

Chairman of the PDI-P Megawati Soekarnoputri gave a message to President Joko Widodo, whose term of office will end on October 20.

Ahead of the completion of Jokowi's leadership, the 5th President asked that there be no more efforts to perpetuate power through narrowing the space for democracy.

"It's finished, it's finished. It's finished, just finished," said Megawati in her speech at the PDIP DPP office, Jalan Diponegoro, Central Jakarta, Thursday, August 22.

Megawati reviewed that after she served for four years as head of state since July 2001, the proclaimer's daughter accepted if her position ended in October 2004 and was replaced by the next President.

"I was told to stop, yes I stopped. Well, that's fine, instead of making a lawsuit, it's not clear that this republic has no president. That's my wae. Yes, I live too. I mean, let me not be president, still called by the president," explained Megawati.

Therefore, Megawati emphasized that she opposes all efforts to hinder the freedom of all parties to participate in democratic contestations such as the 2024 Pilkada which is currently in progress.

Mega also regrets the constellation of regional elections in Jakarta, where PDIP is threatened with not being able to carry regional head candidates because they do not meet the nomination threshold.

This threshold was previously sued by the Constitutional Court (MK) and granted. The Constitutional Court allows non-parliamentary political parties to carry regional head candidates and lower the threshold. The Constitutional Court also rejected the age lawsuit for regional head candidates calculated at the inauguration.

However, the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR RI revised the Pilkada Law which annulled the Constitutional Court's decision regarding changes to the threshold for nomination requirements in the regional elections and the age limit for regional head candidates must be 30 years.

"What do you want to do with this election? Various restrictions are carried out by taking certain candidates and trying to narrow down the democratic space. democratic contestation is blocked by the walls of power because of support for certain candidates," Megawati said.

Megawati then emphasized that if anyone denies the Constitutional Court's decision, they will violate the constitution.

"Therefore, denying the Constitutional Court's decision is tantamount to violating the constitution," he added.
