JAKARTA - The government has ensured that four Unggul Garuda Baru SMA are ready to start teaching and learning activities in the 2026/2027 academic year. In addition to the progress of construction which has exceeded the target, the recruitment process for principals, teachers, and education personnel is also almost complete.

Acting Deputy for Partnerships and Media Relations of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, Kurnia Ramadhana, said the four schools were built in areas that have had limited access to quality education, namely East Belitung (Bangka Belitung Islands), South Central Timor (East Nusa Tenggara), South Konawe (South Sulawesi), and Bulungan (North Kalimantan).

"Currently, the government is building four new Garuda Excellent Schools located in areas that have been lacking access to excellent education," said Kurnia at a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 24.

According to him, until June 21, 2026, all development projects have shown very good achievements.

"Until June 21, 2026, the progress of construction at all locations has shown very good progress and all of them are above the target that has been set," he said.

Along with physical development, the government is also accelerating operational preparations for schools. Based on data from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek), 12 school leaders have been recruited consisting of three school principals, one acting school principal, and eight deputy school principals.

In addition, as many as 42 ASN and PPPK teachers have been recruited. The government is also processing the assignment of 11 religious education teachers and preparing the needs of education personnel through cooperation with universities and local governments.

To support the long-term operation of schools, the government plans to recruit around 459 CPNS teachers and education personnel.

Kurnia is optimistic that all preparations can be completed on time so that teaching and learning activities can begin in July 2026.

"If you look at the progress of physical development and the recruitment of principals, vice principals, and GTK until June, the four new Garuda Unggul SMA will be ready to hold teaching and learning activities in the 2026/2027 school year," he said.

The high public interest is also reflected in the process of accepting new students. A total of 3,935 students from various regions participated in the initial selection. After going through a tiered selection process that considers academic aspects, economic background, and geographical origin, a total of 307 best students were finally selected as the first batch of SMA Unggul Garuda Baru.

The Garuda Baru Advanced High School Program is part of the government's efforts to produce superior generations in the fields of science and technology while expanding access to quality education to various regions of Indonesia.
