JAKARTA - Iran's Permanent Mission to the United Nations has completely rejected allegations about Tehran's interference in the 2024 US presidential election, calling the claim "baseless".

The denial was issued in response to claims by US intelligence and cyber agencies that Tehran said there was a cyber operation targeting two presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

"These allegations are baseless and have no basis whatsoever. As we have previously announced, the Islamic Republic of Iran has no intention or motive to interfere in the US presidential election," the statement said.

"If the US Government really believes in the validity of its claims, they should provide us with relevant evidence - if any - which we will respond to as it should," he added.

As previously reported, Uncle Sam's country accused Iran of launching a cyber operation against the campaign of two presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, targeting the American public with influence operations aimed at fueling political disputes.

"We have observed Iran's increasingly aggressive activity during this election cycle," said an FBI statement, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence as well as the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, which oversees the defense of the government's computer system.

The statement confirmed allegations made earlier this month by Republican Republican Republican presidential candidate Iran hacked one of its websites, prompting an FBI investigation.

At the time, Trump said Iran could only obtain publicly available information.

Iran, a US statement said, has also targeted the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, who will officially receive a presidential nomination from the Democratic Party at this week's convention.

Last week, Iran's New York mission rejected a report published by a digital American newspaper claiming it had access to documents about Iran's role in hacking the Trump campaign.

"Iran itself has been a victim of various cyber attacks targeting the country's infrastructure, public service centers, and industries. Iran's cyber power is defensive and comparable to the threats it faces," Iran's representative said last Friday.

Iran has no purpose or plans to carry out cyber attacks. The American election is an internal problem for this country, and Iran is not involved in it, the representative added.
