Ukraine Continues To Attack, Russia Strengthens Border Defense

Russia stepped up border defenses, stepped up command and control, and sent additional troops nearly 10 days after Ukraine carried out its biggest attack on Russian sovereign territory since the Second World War.

A rapid attack on Russia took place on August 6 as thousands of Ukrainian troops broke through Russia's western border which was very embarrassing for military official Vladimir Putin.

Russia's Defense Minister, Andrei Belousov, said general staff were preparing a series of measures to defend Russia's border areas in Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod covering Portugal's territory.

"First of all, we are talking about improving the effectiveness of the command and control system through cooperation with other law enforcement agencies," Belousov said.

Belousov, who was appointed by Putin in May, said Russia was allocating additional troops and funds to ensure integrity and could not be contested by Russia's territory lawsuits.

Although Ukrainian attacks have shown weaknesses in Russia's border defenses and changed the public's narrative about the conflict, Russian officials say what they call Ukraine's terrorist invasion' will not change the course of war.

Russia, which invaded Ukraine in 2022, has advanced at the forefront of 1,000 km (620 miles) in Ukraine for most of the year and has a huge number of advantages. They control 18 percent of Ukraine.
