Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) has asked PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (PII) to help accelerate the handling of waste problems in the region.
Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said the assistance could be in the form of funding and program management.
"We are working with the financial department for PII financing. Maybe this can help ease the burden on districts/cities in waste processing investments," said Sultan, quoted from the official website of the Yogyakarta Regional Government in Yogyakarta, Thursday, July 25, which was confiscated by Antara.
According to Sultan, there are two things that must be considered by districts/cities in handling waste in DIY.
First, he said, is sorting waste from the household level so that it is hoped that community participation will process their own waste wisely.
"I hope that the people who now want to process the garbage, don't leave the scavengers. Because scavengers also need to eat," he said.
The second thing, he said, was in the aspect of the waste economy that had been sorted.

The sorted waste, according to the Sultan, should be able to be taken to the Intermediate Treatment Facility (ITF) Bawuran to be processed into raw materials for certain types of industrial goods.
"From this waste raw material, there will be furniture and so on. From this sorting, entering the Bawuran, it becomes raw material for processing into other goods. Now, this will be valued at IDR 450,000 per ton," said Sri Sultan.
Therefore, he encouraged the ITF which is being prepared by the Bantul Regency Government in Bawuran, Pleret could immediately operate.
DIY Regional Secretary Beny Suharsono said that the joint commitment to resolving waste had been mutually agreed upon by each district/city including Kulon Progo and Gunungkidul as a follow-up to the waste decentralization program.
The DIY local government, according to Beny, will continue to monitor the development of decentralization of waste in each district/city.
"Because of this waste decentralization program policy, it means that waste is the authority of each district/city," said Beny.
