Lebaran Homecoming 2021, Vice President: It Is Decided Before Ramadan

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the government would decide on the provisions related to Lebaran 2021 holidays and homecoming before the month of Ramadan.

"We have not decided on the Lebaran homecoming issue, I think it will not be long before fasting," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, after reviewing the COVID-19 vaccination at the Lampung Governor's Office in Bandarlampung, as reported by Antara, Monday, March 22.

The government will consider a number of impacts, both from the economic and health sectors, from the policy on whether the 2021 Lebaran homecoming is allowed or not.

"In principle, what we will consider is the extent to which, if it is allowed and if it is prohibited for homecoming, also the impact on the increase of transmission," he also said.

The government will strictly prohibit the public from homecoming in Lebaran if it has an impact on the transmission and increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia.

"If the impact of transmission is large, then there will definitely be a ban. If it can be minimized, then of course there are other ways. Indeed homecoming is a tradition of our society, but there are dangers we face if we allow the homecoming," said the Vice President.

Previously, the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that his party did not prohibit homecoming activities on Lebaran 2021 as long as it was carried out according to the terms and conditions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"Regarding the 2021 homecoming, in principle, the Government through the Ministry of Transportation will not prohibit it. We will coordinate with the task force that we organize the homecoming mechanism together with tightening and tracing those who will be traveling," said Budi Karya.

One of the travel requirements that people must obey when homecoming is to show the results of the COVID-19 test with a shorter validity period than before.
