Hotman Paris Asks For Temporary Delayed Investigation Of The Murder Case Of Vina Cirebon

JAKARTA - Hotman Paris asked for an investigation into Pegi Setiawan in the alleged murder case of Vina Cirebon and Muhammad Rizky alias Eky in 2016 in Cirebon, West Java to be postponed with the hope that the attention of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"It is better if the investigation is temporarily postponed so that Pak Jokowi looks for a neutral fact-finding team, especially from university criminal law experts to investigate the real facts. And after being collected later, it is given to investigators to proceed to the prosecutor's office and to trial," Hotman told reporters at one of the cafes in the Kelapa Gading area, North Jakarta, Tuesday, June 11.

Hotman assessed that the investigation currently being carried out by the police was most likely not fully uncovered in the case. Because, continued Hotman, the police are currently only focused on the suspect, Pegi Setiawan.

"This cannot be revealed if you only rely on the current investigation, the only focus is Pegi. Because the focus of the investigators now is only on Pegi," he said.

Moreover, the majority of the convicts in the alleged murder case of Vina and Eky stated that Pegi was innocent. While only one person said Pegi was guilty.

One convict stated that Pegi was the perpetrator. Five against one which applies? Logically, five who claim that Pegi is innocent are valid. Second, there is also a possibility that the judge is of the opinion that there are two other pieces of evidence, namely testimony from Sudirman. So it is possible that Pegi is free and not free," he said.

Therefore, Hotman asked that this case must be thoroughly revealed. The results of the 2017 trial stated that there were three wanted lists (DPOs). However, according to Hotman, currently it has disappeared and is said to be fictitious.

"If it is only the main target, then this case will evaporate. Two DPOs are no longer being investigated, they are not just followed up, and will cause disappointment to the people and the Vina family," he said.

Hotman ensured that the opinion he submitted was not to close the case. Instead, it only temporarily delays the investigation of the case.

"So, once again we don't state that this case has been terminated, in fact we want this case to be completely uncovered. This cannot be uncovered if we only rely on the current investigation," he said.
