Amien Rais Reveals Scenarios For 3-Period Presidential Positions, Tjahjo Kumolo: Don't Do Political Jump, Accusing Anywhere

JAKARTA - The founder of the Ummat Party, Amien Rais, suspects that there is a scenario of changing the provisions in the 1945 Constitution regarding the presidential term from two terms to three terms. This plan, he said, was carried out by holding a Special Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) to make changes or amendments.

Responding to this, the Minister for Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (MenPANRB) Tjahjo Kumolo said this kind of political maneuver should be abandoned. This is because President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will not be trapped by maneuvers like this.

"Movement or trapping patterns should be abandoned in political maneuvers. I am sure Mr. Jokowi will not be trapped by these cheap maneuvers," Tjahjo told reporters, Monday, March 15.

He said the government is currently working and concentrating on dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and restoring the national economy. So that this kind of aimless political shot, continued Tjahjo, was out of place and was considered to disrupt political stability.

The former Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) also emphasized that political figures should be prepared for the election stages. According to Tjahjo, this is more important than accusing other parties of committing acts that are not in accordance with the law.

"Do not make political accusations everywhere. Then it can be interpreted as parties who really want to but show others, especially Mr. President Jokowi," he said.

In addition, he considered, the public now understands politics more and more. So, this kind of accusation will not be consumed by the public.

"The Indonesian people understand politics and democracy more and more," he said.

Through his YouTube account, Amien Rais Official, former Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Amien Rais, revealed that the Jokowi administration had attempted to control top state institutions and this was considered dangerous.

Furthermore, in the video he uploaded, Amien also suspected that the Jokowi regime would encourage the MPR session to make changes to the two articles. One of them is changing the term of office of the president.

"So they will take the first step asking the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Special Session, which may be one or two articles, he said, needs to be corrected. Which, I also don't know, but later a new article will be offered which then gives the right that the president can be elected three times," he said as quoted in the video.

"If this is really their wish, then I think we can immediately say inalillahi wa inalillahirojiun," he added.
