PM Netanyahu Convinced His Party To Accept Biden's Armistice

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday began his efforts to convince ministers and lawmakers from his Likud Party who rejected the proposed ceasefire proposed by United States President Joe Biden.

Until now, Netanyahu has not announced that he accepts the proposed ceasefire.

According to the Israeli public broadcaster KAN, Netanyahu and his office started talks with members of Knesset (Israeli parliament) from the Likud party which is believed to have rejected the deal with Hamas.

The institute added that Netanyahu's move was carried out because of threats from National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to overthrow the government if they approved Biden's proposal.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, KAN noted that Netanyahu's conversation with his party members raised concerns about the ruling coalition with Ben-Gvir and Smotrich.

On Tuesday, June 4, Housing Minister Yitzhak Goldknaopf, leader of the United Torah Badminton Party, along with several ministers from the Likud Party, voiced support for the proposed ceasefire.

Goldknaopf said he supports proposals leading to the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.

Meanwhile opposition leader Yair Lapid, also urged Netanyahu to accept Biden's ceasefire proposal, adding that he would provide Netanyahu with a political safety net to reach an agreement.

The proposal, proposed by Biden on Friday, proposes a three-stage agreement that will peak with a multi-year process to rebuild the badly damaged coastal enclave and repatriation of all hostages, alive and dead, detained in Gaza.

The first phase will begin with a six-week ceasefire, in which the first round of hostages detained in Gaza will be released, including women, the elderly, and injured, in exchange for the release that Biden says will be " hundreds" of Palestinian prisoners.

Then Israeli forces will also step down from what senior Biden administration officials call "densely populated areas".
