Ahead of the Indonesian Independence Day, the Thousand Islands Police Plant Thousands of Mangrove Seeds on Harapan Island

JAKARTA - The Kepulauan Seribu Police together with the Kepulauan Seribu Regency Government held a mangrove planting activity of 2,000 mangrove seedlings in the North Seribu Islands, North Jakarta, Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The planting of 2,000 mangrove seedlings is an effort to increase greenery, prevent abrasion, and commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Head of the Thousand Islands Police, AKBP Argadija Putra, said that the planting of 2,000 mangrove seedlings was carried out in the Harapan Island Mangrove Beach area.

"This mangrove planting is a form of our concern for the environment, especially the coastal ecosystem of the Thousand Islands," said AKBP Argadija.

The planting of mangroves is part of a joint commitment to maintain environmental sustainability while strengthening the coastal ecosystem in the Thousand Islands.

"We want to invite all elements of society to work together to maintain the sea and coast so that it remains sustainable for future generations," he said.

This activity was also attended by the North Thousand Islands District Head, the Head of Hope Island, the Head of Coconut Island, as well as a number of government and community elements.

The Police Chief said that mangrove planting activities were not only a form of concern for the environment, but also an effort to cultivate a sense of awareness regarding the importance of maintaining coastal areas.

According to him, the existence of mangroves has an important role in maintaining coastal ecosystems, including helping to prevent abrasion and become a habitat for various marine biota.

"The spirit of the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia we realize with activities that provide real benefits. In addition to maintaining the environment, we also want to be present in the community and build togetherness," he said.

After the mangrove planting activity, the Police Chief and his staff continued social service activities at the Nyiur Melambai RPTRA, Kelapa Island. During this activity, the Thousand Islands Police handed over social assistance to the people of Kelapa Island.

"We hope that this activity can strengthen the synergy and closeness of the National Police with the community. The National Police is not only present in maintaining security, but also contributes to social activities and environmental preservation," he said.
