The number of polling stations (TPS) for the 2024 Pilkada in Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency, East Kalimantan (Kaltim) decreased by 247 points compared to the number of polling stations in the 2024 General Election. Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) of PPU Ali Yamin Ishak said the reduction in the number of polling stations was carried out in line with the policy of the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia which set the number of voters in the 2024 Regional Elections to 600 people, up 100 percent compared to the 2024 General Election of around 300 people. In the presidential and vice presidential elections, the DPR and DPD RI, the provincial DPRD, as well as the district and city DPRD which will be held on February 14, 2024, the Penajam KPU will determine as many as 540 polling stations. With the addition of the number of voters to 600 people at the Polling Station in the 2024 Pilkada, he said, the Penajam KPU set 293 polling stations for the election for governors and deputy governors, as well as the election for regents and deputy regents which was held on November 27, 2024. "There are 540 polling stations, while the number of regional elections for polling stations has decreased to 293 points spread across all urban villages and villages," said Ali Yamin. "There is a shrinking number of polling stations of 247 points in the regional elections to 293 polling stations with an estimated number of voters of around 468 people in each polling station," added Aris as a member of the KPU PPU.

The estimated number of voters is still adjusted to updating voter data through matching and research between the final voter list (DPT) of the 2024 General Election as many as 134,383 people, with data on potential population of election voters (DP4) from the Ministry of Home Affairs recorded 138,070 people. "The number is included in the temporary voter data (DPS) and a fit and research (coklit) for updating voter data will be determined as a DPT," he said. Each TPS in the regional election has only two ballot boxes with two ballot letters, namely for the election of regents and deputy regents, as well as the election for governor and deputy governor. "The basis for the policy to reduce the number of polling stations carried out by the Indonesian KPU concerns the efficiency of the budget for holding simultaneous regional head elections," added Aris.
