ACEH - The Langsa Customs and Excise joint team thwarted the smuggling of used motorcycles, spare parts and others in the Bandar Khalifah area, Bendahara District, Aceh Tamiang Regency.
Head of Supervisory and Customs and Excise Services Type Customs C Langsa Sulaiman said the value of smuggled imported goods was estimated at IDR 3.6 billion.
"The smuggled items include motorbikes, spare parts, animals, plants, and others. Currently, we are still investigating the potential for state losses, while the value of goods is estimated at IDR 3.6 billion," said Sulaiman in Langsa, Antara, Tuesday, May 21.
The smuggling action involved the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of Aceh, the BC 30002 and BC 10030 marine patrol teams and the Subdenpom Iskandar Muda Langsa and Aceh Tamiang.
He said the prosecution operation was carried out on Thursday, May 16 last week. The action was carried out based on public information which stated that there was smuggling of imported goods using fast boats in the Aceh Tamiang Regency area.
"Based on this information, the joint Customs and Excise team patrolled the waters of Aceh Tamiang Regency. The marine patrol team saw motorboats speeding into the river channel in the Bandar Khalifah area," said Sulaiman.
The marine patrol team had chased the motorboat and found it. When found, the motorboat had been abandoned by its crew. Meanwhile, the ground patrol team found a warehouse not far from the motorboat.
In the warehouse, said Sulaiman, nine large motorcycles of various brands were found in used conditions. A total of 21 coli motorized vehicle spare parts, a breed dog, 21 turtles, 11 ornamental planting koli, three cosmetic koli of various types and several other types of imported goods.
"No customs documents were found related to imports, either on the motorboat or the warehouse. From the results of the research, these items are included in the class of prohibited goods or import restrictions," said Sulaiman.
Sulaiman said the smuggling of imported goods was suspected of violating Article 102 of Law Number 17 of 2006 concerning amendments to Law Number 10 of 1995 concerning customs.
Now, the illegal imported goods are secured at the Langsa Customs Office for further processing. Meanwhile, the motorboat suspected of being a means of transportation was secured at Langsa Port.
"Meanwhile, plants and animals have been delegated to the Aceh Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center (BKHIT) for further handling," said Sulaiman.
"The action against smuggling is a commitment to Customs and Excise to protect the country's economy and protect the public from the negative impact of the circulation of illegal goods," said Sulaiman.
