JAKARTA - A recent study conducted by Traveloka in collaboration with YouGov revealed the habits and preferences of Indonesian tourists in choosing tourist destinations and planning travel.

According to an official statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, this study is part of a survey on the tourism trend in Asia Pacific. The study involved nearly 12,000 respondents from nine countries, including more than 2,000 respondents from Indonesia.

The study results show that 39 percent of Indonesian tourists tend to choose destinations with tourist attractions as their main destination during holidays.

Nature tourism is the main choice for Indonesian tourists. As many as 75 percent of respondents expressed their preference for visiting natural destinations such as mountains and national parks. In addition, 65 percent chose coastal and coastal areas, while another 37 percent were interested in destinations with historical or cultural values.

Most Indonesian tourists, namely 70 percent, prefer to vacation in the country. Affordable comfort and cost factors are the main reasons. Bali, Lombok, and Yogyakarta appear as favorite destinations in the country.

Prices are an important element in holiday planning. As many as 46 percent of respondents place price affordability as a top priority in choosing accommodation. In addition, 34 percent of tourists consider promotions and discounts as factors that affect their choice of destination. Attractive offers have proven to be able to affect tourist decisions in determining holiday destinations.

This study also shows that 56 percent of Indonesian tourists rely on social media, while another 53 percent use travel platforms to plan their vacations. This figure is much higher than the Asia Pacific average, which is 42 percent for the use of social media and 40 percent for digital travel platforms.

Awareness of sustainability is one of the important aspects in travel planning. As many as 86 percent of Indonesian tourists consider the sustainability aspect when planning holidays, higher than the regional average of 80 percent.

This finding opens up great opportunities for travel service providers who focus on sustainability, such as environmentally friendly accommodation and green tourism initiatives, to attract Indonesian tourists.

"Industrial actors must understand the unique needs of this growing market in order to remain relevant in the dynamic tourism landscape," said Traveloka President Caesar Indra.
