BMKG Asks People To Beware Of Potential Heavy Rain Accompanied By Lightning

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) asked the public to be aware of the potential for heavy rain at a speed of 50 millimeters per day accompanied by lightning or lightning and strong winds on Sunday, May 19.

Based on the official BMKG website in Jakarta, the seeds of tropical cyclone 93W were observed in the North Pacific Ocean of Papua which formed a wind speed deceleration area or convergence on the North Coast of the Papua Islands.

Cyclonic circulation was also observed in the Andaman Sea and East Papua which formed a deceleration of wind speed or elongated convergence in North Aceh Waters, from the South Coast of West Papua to South Papua and in the Aru Sea.

Areas of deceleration of wind speed or other convergence were also observed extending from North Sumatra to the Malacca Strait, from the West Waters of Bengkulu to the West Indian Ocean of Bengkulu, in the Natuna Sea, from West Kalimantan to the Natuna Sea, and from West Sulawesi to the Makassar Strait.

Then, wind confluence areas or confluences were observed in the waters of North West Kalimantan and on the North Coast of the Papua Islands.

This condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth around Tropical Cyclone seeds/cyclonic circulation and along this convergence/confluence area.

The convergence areas also include from South Sumatra to Bengkulu, from the Java Sea to Lampung, from Central Kalimantan to West Kalimantan, in South Kalimantan, from West Papua to Southwest Papua, as well as from Papua to Central Papua and South Papua.

This condition ultimately increases the potential for rain cloud growth, so that several areas ranging from Aceh, Riau, Jambi, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, and Lampung have the potential to experience heavy rain.

Apart from that area, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua also have the potential to be hit by heavy rains.

Meanwhile, areas that have the potential for rain that can be accompanied by lightning or lightning and strong winds are Banten, West Java, and South Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, areas that have the potential to be hit by strong winds include East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.
