AGAM REGENCY- The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) will carry out weather modification technology in locations affected by cold lava floods and floods in West Sumatra to anticipate further disasters.

"BMKG has coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to carry out weather modification technology," said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati while reviewing the location of the cold lava flood in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, quoted from ANTARA, Tuesday, May 14.

The application of weather modification technology began to be effective on Wednesday, May 15. Dwikorita explained the modification of the weather carried out, namely trying not to rain in disaster locations.

"So, we are trying to prevent rain from falling at the disaster site and being dropped off at sea," said the former Chancellor of Gadjah Mada University (UGM).

Before the weather modifications were made, BMKG monitored that the rain clouds were still around the sea and began to move towards the mainland. It is estimated that at 13.00 WIB it will rain in a number of areas in the Minang area.

"Therefore, an approach or method of weather modification is needed so that rain does not occur in locations affected by the disaster," said the Professor of Environmental Geology and UGM Disaster Mitigation.

Meanwhile, the Head of BNPB Lt. Gen. Suharyanto said the agency together with local governments and other institutions had deployed a number of heavy equipment to deal with the impact of the cold lava disaster of Mount Marapi.

"We will also ensure that all flood survivors who are in the command post are well served, including meeting their basic needs," he said.

After visiting locations affected by the disaster, BNPB will formulate what steps must be taken by relevant stakeholders so that the hydrometeorological disaster does not occur again.
