JAKARTA - The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the National Police will implement a point system action for traffic rules violators. The implementation will begin in January 2025.
The point system will begin to be implemented in conjunction with the launch of the Traffic Activity Report which is a data on the assessment of motorist behavior.
"This traffic activity report will later become our database for driving or road traffic behavior with the parameters being traffic violations and traffic accidents," said Police Traffic Police Chief Inspector General Aan Suhanan to reporters quoted on Friday, January 3.
The mechanism of the points system is that every driver's license holder (SIM) will be given 12 points. Every violation, then, the points will be automatically reduced.
The amount of the deduction of points is adjusted to the type of violation. Currently, there are five categories of types of violations.
"So there are 12 points, someone who gets a driver's license has 12 points. Later, if you commit a minor violation, it will be reduced by 1 point," he said.
In addition to minor violations, continued Aan, motorists who commit moderate violations will be reduced by 3 points, while there are 5 points of serious violations.
Then, drivers get involved in accidents that cause death will be immediately reduced by 12 points. In fact, drivers involved in the hit-and-run case will be recommended to revoke the SIM.
If the driver's point has expired in a one-year period, the police will temporarily block his driver's license.
"If it expires in 1 year 12 points, 18 accumulated points can be recommended for temporary blocking. Later during the extension it must be repeated," he said.

Aan emphasized that the implementation of this system is solely to encourage motorists who obey the rules. That way, there will be no more people's rights taken by motorists such as motorbikes running on the sidewalk and so on.
"This traffic activity report is our effort to create drivers who prioritize safety," said Aan.
