JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Food, Maritime and Agricultural Security Service (KPKP) destroyed four alligator gar fish found circulating in the Johar Baru MSME Ornamental Fish Promotion Center (PPIH) building, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, May 8.

The destruction of alligator fish is the enforcement of Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation number 19 of 2020 concerning the prohibition of income, cultivation, circulation, and expenditure of fish types that are harmful and/or detrimental to and from the management area of Indonesian state fisheries.

Head of the Maritime Affairs Division of the DKI Jakarta KPKP Service, Imam Fitrianto, said that the alligator gar fish is included in the invasive fish category. These fish are among the types that should not exist in Indonesia.

"Earlier we found four alligator gars and they were prosecuted according to applicable regulations. In accordance with Permen KP number 19 of 2020, annihilation must be carried out," he said, Wednesday, May 8.

Imam explained that the four fish are products of business actors at PPIH UMKM Johar Baru. After being educated about the applicable regulations, the business actors accepted and were willing to destroy their merchandise.

Imam continued, the four fish that were destroyed were 100 - 120 centimeters each.

"The activity aims to protect the endemic water ecosystem in Jakarta. We appreciate business actors who have submitted voluntarily and obediently to the applicable regulations," he said.
