Attorney General Investigates The Special Autonomy Funds Embezzlement Of Papua Education Office's IDR 4 Billion

JAYAPURA - The Papuan Attorney General's Office is investigating a case of alleged misuse of special autonomy funds within the Regional Education, Library, and Archives Agency (DPPAD) for the 2020 budget year amounting to IDR 4 billion.

"It is true that we are currently investigating the case after receiving reports from the public," said Papua Attorney General Nikolaus Kondomo in Jayapura as quoted by Antara, Monday, March 8.

He explained, the funds that were allegedly misused amounted to IDR 4 billion was originally allocated for planning. However, these funds were used not in accordance with the provisions on the use of the budget.

The case is currently still under investigation. A total of 18 people have been asked for information including the treasurer, the head of the budget section, and the Head of the Papua Education, Library and Regional Archives (DPPAD), said Kondomo who was accompanied by a number of officials within the Papua Attorney General's Office.

There are indications in the examination that the budget is not used according to procedures because the funds disbursed are used to finance other activities, said Kondomo.

The head of the PPAD Papua Service, Christian Sohilait, when contacted via WhatsApp, answered briefly.

"Ok fine, we just follow," he said.
