One Year Of The COVID-19 Pandemic: Thousands Of Balinese Workers Get Layoffs, 79 Thousand Of Them Are Sent Home

DENPASAR - One year of the COVID-19 pandemic has a major impact on the economy in Bali. The number of workers who get laid off and subject to layoffs continues to grow.

The formal workers who were dismissed and hit by layoffs mostly worked in hotels and restaurants. From the data from the Bali Province Manpower and Mineral Resources Office, there were around 2.000 and 300 formal workers who got laid off.

"Data received from regencies and cities, (in total) that up to now, there are 79.103 formal workers and 3.349 layoffs", said Bali Province Manpower and Energy Agency Head Ida Bagus Ngurah Arda when confirmed, Wednesday, March 3.

"It turns out that the data we received has increased the number. We continue to ask for the data update, meaning that if there is additional data reported to us. It will increase again with 2.000 dismissals and then 300 dismissed. (This data) was last in February until now, hopefully, there are no more", he added.

Currently, it is being recorded by companies including restaurants that lay off employees.

"We are currently asking the district for data on how many companies there are and how many workers. Later, when we have the data, we will submit an official letter to the district", he said.
