Kapoksi Baleg NasDem: Jakarta Is Still The Capital Until IKN Is Inaugurated

JAKARTA - The head of the faction group (Kapoksi) of the Indonesian House of Representatives Baleg from the NasDem faction, Taufik Basari, stated that Jakarta was still the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia until the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) was inaugurated. This was conveyed by Taufik Basari in response to the statement by the Chairman of the DPR Baleg, Supratman Andi Agtas regarding Jakarta has lost DKI status since February 15. "Currently, Jakarta is still the capital city because IKN has not been officially designated as the capital city. And some government implementations are still running in DKI. Therefore, we are still functioning Jakarta as the capital city," said Taufik at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, March 7. Tobas, as he is familiarly called, then explained about the DKJ Bill which was said to be accelerated to determine Jakarta's status. He did not deny the end of the status of the capital city in line with the implementation of Law (UU) Number 21 of 2023 concerning Amendments to Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the State Capital (IKN). "Yes, actually, the norm of the law can only no longer apply with the repeal of these norms with the law as well. Indeed, legitimacy is certainly problematic when it has to be stipulated that it must be two years after being promulgated there must be a change in status, but in several other laws there are also those that when given the deadline has not been reached, that's also there," he explained. The member of Commission III of the DPR said that Jakarta's legitimacy as the capital city has indeed decreased, but it is still valid as the state capital as long as its status has not been revoked by the new law.

"So actually we can still address it and we have a reason for that too, because after all the IKN development is still ongoing. We are still waiting for some strategic needs regarding IKN, so there is nothing urgent that we must face at this time," said Tobas. "Although it must also be admitted that we have a legitimacy problem, it is also related to how we need to accelerate the discussion of the DKJ Bill to become a law," he concluded.
