JAMBI - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Merangin Police, Jambi Province, arrested a criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) who played a pimp.
Merangin Police Chief AKBP Ruri Roberto said this case was revealed when the Merangin Police Satreskrim Opsnal team who was part of Operation Pekat Siginjai 2024 received information related to the trafficking of people using a conversation application.
From there, said the Police Chief, Satreskrim personnel immediately conducted an investigation after receiving the information and finally securing the pimp with the initials BA (28), a resident of West Bangko District, Merangin.
In launching the action, the perpetrators allegedly played a role in finding orders for women at night and distributing them through a conversation application to their customers. From the results of this activity, the perpetrators get profits in the form of money which varies in amount from Rp. 300 thousand to Rp. 700 thousand per transaction.
Head of the Merangin Police Public Information Sub-Section, Aiptu Ruly, said the joint team involved in Operation Pekat Siginjai 2024 continued to investigate the possibility of other TIP networks in the Merangin Police jurisdiction.
"Currently, the joint team is continuing to develop the case because it is possible that there is another TIP network," he said in Merangin, Antara, Monday, March 4.

For his actions, according to Ruly, the perpetrator is subject to Article 2 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the crime of trafficking in persons (TPPO) with a maximum threat of 15 years in prison and a maximum fine of Rp600 million.
Currently, the Jambi Regional Police and the Regional Police are carrying out Operation Pekat Siginjai 2024 targeting community diseases such as prostitution, thuggery, alcohol, gambling and other community diseases.
