JAKARTA - Pakistan considers its neighboring Iran to have violated its airspace and resulted in the death of two children, hours after Iranian state media said the missile targeted two bases of the Jaish al Adl militant group on Tuesday.
Islamabad warned the incident could lead to "serious consequences" and "completely unacceptable" in a statement issued by a spokesman for Pakistan's Foreign Office on Wednesday morning, citing Reuters January 17.
Pakistan's statement did not mention the location of the incident, or the nature of airspace violations, but said it had filed a protest with Tehran with Iran's head of mission in Islamabad having been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"It is responsible for the consequences being in the hands of Iran," Pakistan said in a statement, adding the incident occurred despite several communications channels with Iran.
It is known that Jaish al Adl previously launched an attack on Iranian security forces in the border area with Pakistan.
"These bases were hit and destroyed by missiles and drones," Iranian state media reported earlier, without elaborating.
Iran's Nournews, which is affiliated with the country's main security agency, said the bases attacked were in Blochistan Province, Pakistan.
