KAPUAS HULU - The flood disaster that occurred in Nanga Tepuai Village, Hulu Gurung District, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan submerged residential areas and national roads in the area

Head of the Kapuas Hulu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Gunawan said the flood began at around 02.00 WIB, Friday, January 5.

Floods caused a number of public facilities and residential areas to be flooded, even the national road section connecting the capital city of West Kalimantan, Pontianak to Putussibau, the capital of Kapuas Hulu Regency, was also submerged.

"There were no casualties, but the community's activities were paralyzed, residents were trapped in the flood and built a stage in the house, while land transportation on national roads was also affected," Gunawan said as quoted by ANTARA.

Based on temporary data, there are currently 350 houses flooded and 500 families (KK) with 900 people affected by the flood.

In addition, public facilities, such as the Camat Office, Posyandu, SDN 01 Nanga Tepuai building and SMPN Tepuai and other facilities were also flooded.

"We have dispatched a team to the flood location to collect data and evacuate residents in need," he explained.

In addition, the Hulu Gurung sub-district head, Hulu Gurung Police and Hulu Gurung Koramil also monitored data collection and visited a number of houses affected by the flood.

Until now, the water depth is estimated to be around 80 centimeters to two meters.

According to Gunawan, flooding was caused by high rainfall intensity which caused the Tepuai River and Embau River in the area to overflow.

"Usually flooding in Tepuai is not that long, because it is a flood sent by overflowing rivers," he said.
