Majority of Major Cities are Predicted to be Cloudy to Light Rain

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning in the form of the potential for light, moderate to heavy rain which may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major cities in Indonesia on Saturday.

Citing Antara, Selly Brilian's assistant explained in general terms that the convergence area extends in the waters of western North Sumatra, the waters of western Bengkulu, the Malacca Strait, Jambi, South Sumatra, the northern waters of Banten, the Java Sea, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, the Flores Sea, the eastern coast of Central Sulawesi, the Maluku Sea, Gorontalo, the Sulawesi Sea, North Sulawesi, the North Pacific Ocean, West Papua, and the Arafuru Sea.

This condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth along the areas that are passed by convergence or confluence.

Therefore, his party estimates that several major cities will have the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds only in the Padang area.

Meanwhile, several other major cities will experience light to moderate rain, namely the Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Mamuju, Kendari, Palu, Sorong, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya regions.

As for the big cities that are expected to only experience cloudy conditions today, namely the Banda Aceh, Pangkal Pinang, Palembang, Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Palangkaraya, Samarinda, Banjarmasin, Denpasar, Kupang, Makassar, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Manokwari and Merauke.
