Bawaslu No Problem The Model For The Candidate For Vice Presidential Candidates To Be Held In Pairs

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) Rahmat Bagja, has no problem with the debate model for presidential and vice presidential candidates (candidates-vice candidates) to be held in pairs. Bagja assessed that the paired presidential candidate model is not a matter that must be debated. Bagja explained that the debate model was not specifically regulated in Law 7 of 2017 concerning elections, but only regulates the amount and partition of the portion for presidential and vice presidential candidates. "The form is not regulated, this is indeed the authority of the KPU and candidate pairs," Bagja told reporters in Jakarta, Wednesday, December 6. Bagja explained, in Article 277 of the Election Law it was stated that the total debate was 5 times. This number includes the distribution of 3 times for presidential and 2 times for vice presidential candidates. So, according to Bagja, the debate model debated by the presidential and vice presidential pair campaign team, can be discussed together by the KPU. Including the matter of practice will later couple on stage in each debate. "So it is up to the presidential and vice presidential candidates, campaign team friends from the existing presidential and vice presidential candidates and the KPU. Please make the best debate format," said Bagja. It is known, the General Election Commission (KPU) today will again hold a discussion meeting on the pairs of presidential candidates and vice presidents together with the three presidential pairs team. In the meeting, a format, theme, panelist, as well as debate moderators will be decided.

Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari said the format, theme, panelist, and moderator of the debate had not been established in the first meeting last week. At the previous meeting, it was only approved regarding the date and location of the debate. Hasyim said that the KPU had asked for written input records from the three presidential and vice presidential teams regarding methods, mechanisms, and debate topics.
