Requests For Clarification Of Voter Data Leaks Have Not Been Fulfilled, Kemenkominfo Letters Again KPU

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) said the General Elections Commission (KPU) had not clarified the alleged leak of voter data for the 2024 General Election.

The Director General of Informatics Applications (APTIKA) of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, admitted that his party had sent the second mandate to the KPU to ask for clarification regarding this matter.

"We have sent another letter, because the KPU had to reply to the letter. There has been no (response from the KPU), therefore we sent a second letter," said Semuel at the Ministry of Communication and Information, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, December 5, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to Semuel, the clarification of the incident experienced by PSE if it is suspected that a data leak does not have to be in the form of a solution and problem solving.

PSE can reply to the clarification letter with steps that have been taken by PSE to tackle alleged related incidents.

Based on Law number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection (PDP), PSE is obliged to convey to institutions to personal data subjects if a failure is found in the Protection of Personal Data.

This is stated in Article 46 paragraph (1) which states that the notification must be given in writing no later than 3x24 hours.

Even so, because the accompanying regulations governing institutions for the supervision of the PDP Law have not been completed, the current institutional role is still held by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics as the supervisor of the regulation.

In the incident of alleged KPU data leak, unfortunately as PSE, the KPU still has not given a written notification to the Ministry of Communication and Information in accordance with the mandate of the law.

Therefore, Semuel emphasized that his party is currently waiting for a reply from the KPU to obtain clarity in accordance with applicable regulations.

"Although there has been a statement released in the media. But for us, we are currently waiting for the correspondence according to the official process. We are waiting for it," he said.

Previously, on Tuesday (28/11) the alleged leak of voter data at the KPU emerged after an anonymous hacker named "Jimbo" claimed to have hacked the KPU website and accessed voter data from the site.
