UGM Affirms The Status Of Professor Eddy Hiariej Corruption Suspects Not And Merta Revoked

YOGYAKARTA - Secretary of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Andi Sandi said the status of professor of Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej alias Eddy Hiariej was not immediately revoked even though he had been named a suspect by the KPK.

"Specifically, it is not immediately revoked. There is a possibility there but there must be procedures that must be passed," said Andi Sandi at the UGM Campus, Yogyakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, November 16.

According to Andi, both the determination and revocation of the status of professors can only be carried out by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti).

"The average principal decree is now still from the minister (Menristekdikti), so the only one who can revoke it is the minister," he said.

Campuses through the university's honorary council, he said, could only issue recommendations to the chancellor to be submitted to the Ministry of Research and Technology.

The UGM University Honorary Council (DKU), continued Andi, upholds the principle of presumption of innocence so that the examination of violations of the code of ethics against Eddy is only carried out after the case that ensnares has permanent legal force or Inkracht.

"Because we use the presumption of innocence. This is not continuing to protect, but because we also have to be procedural," said Andi.

For that reason, Andi Sandi considered it reasonable to have Eddy Hiariej at the inauguration of former Deputy Chancellor of UGM Plenary Sugarda at the UGM Senate Hall, Thursday (16/11).

In the event, Eddy appeared to be present wearing a toga and sitting in front with other UGM professors.

"So as usual, until today he is sitting in front. Mas Eddy is here to sit in front, because he is still a professor," said Andi.

Previously, the KPK said that it had signed a letter determining Wamenkumham Eddy Hiariej as a suspect in the alleged bribery case about two weeks ago.

"The determination of the suspect Wamenkumham, that's right, we signed it about two weeks ago," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata at the KPK's Merah Putih building, South Jakarta, Thursday (9/11).

Alex said that his party also named other suspects in the investigation of the alleged corruption case. "Four suspects, from the three recipients, gave one," said Alex.

Eddy Hiariej was reported by Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) to the KPK on suspicion of gratification of Rp7 billion. IPW chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso on Tuesday (14/3) reported Yogi Ari Rukmana as Eddy Hiariej's personal assistant and advocate Yosie Andika Mulyadi to the KPK.

Sugeng Teguh Santoso reported both of them on suspicion of receiving gratuities worth IDR 7 billion related to consultation and assistance for ratifying the company's legal entities.
