Kalbaghar Customs Disrupts the Smuggling of 2.7 Million Illegal Cigarette Sticks in Kubu Raya

JAKARTA - The West Kalimantan Directorate General of Customs and Excise (Kanwil DJBC Kalbagbar) thwarted an attempt to smuggle 2,740,000 illegal cigarettes. The millions of cigarettes consist of various brands.

The information received, Tuesday, August 11, the disclosure of the case began with intelligence information received by the Customs team on Sunday (9/8) which stated that there was an illegal cigarette shipment from Java to Kalimantan using an expedition truck fleet transported by a ship.

The officers then tracked two truck units since they left Dwikora Port at 18.15 WIB until they headed to the location of the cargo unloading. Entering Monday (10/8) morning at around 07.00 WIB, the Customs team raided the warehouse location.

Officers found 20 cartons of illegal cigarettes that had been moved into a pickup truck and another 155 cartons in the truck. The total evidence seized amounted to 175 cartons.

The illegal cigarettes use tax tape that does not comply with the provisions, such as plain tax tape and suspected to be fake.

The total value of the evidence is estimated to reach Rp. 4,076,900,000 (four billion seven hundred and sixty-six million nine hundred thousand Rupiah) with a potential loss of state that has been saved by Rp. 2,657,337,100 (two billion six hundred and fifty-seven million three hundred and thirty-seven thousand one hundred Rupiah).

All evidence was secured at the DJBC Kalbagbar Regional Office for further investigation into the alleged violations in the tax field.
