Riau Prosecutor's Office Names Suspect In Prosecutor's Bribery Case

The Riau High Prosecutor's Office has named a suspect with the initials K alias R in a case of alleged bribery of a prosecutor with the initials SH after being secured by the Buron Arrest Team (Tabur) of the Attorney General's Office.

Head of the Legal Information and Public Relations Section of the Riau Prosecutor's Office, Bambang Heripurwanto, said that K was secured in the Ceger area, Cipayung, East Jakarta, Wednesday night (25/10). Apart from him, at that time M, who was none other than his wife, was also arrested.

"Both of them were arrested after being summoned in an investigation into alleged corruption in the misuse of positions or receipt of gifts or promises by state officials or civil servants related to the handling of narcotics cases against a defendant named Fauzan Afriansyah whose prosecution process was carried out by the Bengkalis District Attorney," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 26.

She said K actively communicated on behalf of Fauzan Afriansyah and became an intermediary for bribes to Prosecutor SH through her husband, Bayu. K was also allegedly the intermediary for sending money to Bayu through his friend's account amounting to Rp299,900,000 in early March 2023.

Fauzan was a prisoner in a narcotics case handled by Attorney SH when his trial was held at the Bengkalis District Court (PN). Meanwhile, Bayu is a member of the National Police with the rank of Bripka who is none other than the husband of SH.

After the two of them were secured, the husband and wife were examined as witnesses at the South Jakarta District Attorney's Office. Furthermore, the investigative team conducted an exposure based on the available evidence.

"So the status of witness K alias R on that day was raised from witness to suspect," said Bambang.

On the same day, detention began based on the Detention Order of the Head of the Riau High Prosecutor's Office on October 25, 2023 at the Salemba Rutan, South Jakarta District Attorney's Branch.

"Saksi M yang merupakan istri K alias R sampai saat ini statusnya masih sebagai saksi karena yang aktif melakukan komunikasi dan intermediary uang adalah tersangka K alias R," sebut Bambang.

The day after the arrest, suspect K alias R was flown from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta to Sultan Syarif Kasim Airport (SSK) II Pekanbaru. Arriving in Bertuah City, he was immediately taken to the Riau Prosecutor's Office for intensive examination and health checks.

"Investigators continue to detain suspect K alias R at the Pekanbaru Class I Detention Center," said Bambang.
