Britain-Germany Develops Long-Range Missile to Anticipate Russia

LONDON - Britain and Germany plan to develop a cruise missile with a range of up to 2,000 kilometers that is targeted to be operational by 2034.

The German daily Die Welt on Tuesday, July 21, reported that the development of the missile was part of the Deep Precision Strike (DPS) initiative led by Britain and Germany.

In early July 2026, ten European countries joined the initiative to develop a new long-range missile system with a range of more than 1,200 miles or about 1,930 kilometers.

According to the report, which quoted the source, the DPS capability is being prepared to launch long-range precision strikes as a step in anticipation of a possible conflict with Russia.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, details of the project are still confidential, but its development is said to rely on British technology with funding support from Germany.

The report also said the development process had begun and was progressing according to plan.

Currently, there are two concepts being considered, namely missiles that are capable of flying at very low altitudes, or missiles that are capable of traveling up to five times the speed of sound.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson in 2024 said Russia had no intention of attacking NATO member countries, because he thought it was unreasonable.
