JAKARTA - Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani said that the DPR is monitoring a number of issues that directly affect the community. Starting from the impact of El Nino on food, doctor internship programs, PPPK budgets, to fraud on umrah pilgrims.

Puan conveyed this when closing the V Session Period of the 2025-2026 Session in the plenary meeting at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 21.

According to Puan, the council's equipment has held a public hearing to discuss various issues of public concern.

"Among others, strengthening the digital literacy program to the most remote areas, the PPPK salary budget through a joint policy between the center and the regions, and the case of fraud in the umrah congregation," said Puan.

The DPR also discussed the anticipation of a prolonged El Nino that could disrupt national food security. Other issues that were monitored were the construction of a railway crossing, digital commerce, consumer protection, and the evaluation of the Indonesian National Standard or SNI.

Puan said the DPR would evaluate the working system of participants in the doctor internship program at health facilities. The council also discussed the implementation of the New Student Admission System or SPMB as well as the protection of women and children victims of violence.

The issue of energy is also included in the supervision. The DPR highlighted the reform of oil and gas governance and the electricity sector to meet people's needs.

In addition, the board discussed the prevention of the circulation of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and prohibited drugs from within the correctional institution.

In the field of legislation, the DPR completed five draft laws into laws during this session. A total of 17 bills were also approved as DPR initiative proposals.

At the next hearing, the DPR together with the government will continue to discuss the 11 bills that are still in the first level of discussion.

Puan said the success of the legislation program was not enough to be measured by the number of laws that were passed.

"The success of Prolegnas is not only focused on the aspect of quantity, but also pays attention to the quality of legislative products," he said.

The DPR also agreed on the Macro Economic Framework and Fiscal Policy Elements 2027 with the government. The agreement will be the basis for drafting the economic direction and the 2027 State Budget.

"Every rupiah allocated by the government in the state budget is a trust from the people. Every rupiah must return to the people and feel the benefits," said Puan.

After the closure of the trial period, the DPR entered a recess period. Council members will return to their constituencies to absorb public aspirations.
