Jakpus Police Investigate Alleged Kidnapping of Golf Athlete Jesslyn Wijaya

JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta Metro Police is investigating a report of an alleged kidnapping of female golf athlete Jesslyn Wijaya Lay, which was reported to have occurred when the victim attended her family's birthday celebration at a restaurant in the Mangga Besar area, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra confirmed that his party had received a report regarding the incident.

"Currently, we are still investigating to ensure all the facts that have occurred," said Roby in his statement in Jakarta, Monday.

He said the report had been registered with the number LP/B/2092/VII/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO JAKPUS/POLDA METRO JAYA.

Until now, the Central Jakarta Metro Police is still conducting an investigation to collect facts and evidence related to the report.

Meanwhile, the family's lawyer, Andi Darti, said the alleged incident occurred on Monday (13/7) at around 19.45 WIB at the Saung Kita Restaurant, Mangga Besar.

According to Andi, based on the testimony of witnesses obtained by the reporting party, shortly before the birthday party began, the victim allegedly closed his eyes, then was taken by two large men to a black car.

"The victim shouted for help and tried to get out of the vehicle, but was then put back in the car," said Andi.

He said that since the incident, Jesslyn could no longer be contacted by her family and friends.

The mobile phone allegedly used by the victim was also said to be inaccessible.

Andi added, based on information obtained by the reporting party, the police had visited the scene, asked for information from a number of witnesses, and conducted a search at several locations suspected of being related to the victim's whereabouts.

According to him, the reporting party also obtained information that still needs verification that the victim allegedly traveled to Malaysia through Semarang on July 14, 2026.

On the other hand, the reporter also received information that the mobile phone device allegedly belonging to the victim was still detected in the Puri Jimbaran area.

He emphasized that all of this information still requires further investigation by investigators to ensure its truth.

"We hope that the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia will continue to take steps to investigate professionally, objectively, transparently, and accountable," he said.
