DPR BKSAP Reminds Gaza Crisis At The G20 Parliament Forum
Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives Fadli Zon (VOI)

JAKARTA - Chairman of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Fadli Zon participated in the Parliamentary Forum on LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment) in New Delhi, India, as a series of P20 or Parliamentary 20, namely the parliamentary forum for members of the G20, 12-14 October 2023. The forum opened by the Chairman of the Indian Parliament, Om Birla, was attended by a number of G20 parliamentary chairmen including from Indonesia.

In the G-20 forum, Fadli mentioned various natural disasters that have an impact on the environment. However, he also reminded of disasters that occur due to human actions.

He regretted that there is still a Palestinian crisis. Fadli emphasized that we must not forget disasters caused by human actions which also have a big impact on humanity and hinder efforts to achieve the SDGs. There will be no world peace until everyone lives in peace.

In front of the G-20 parliamentary delegations, Fadli also strongly criticized the non-objective response of the global community to the current situation in the Gaza Strip. What is currently happening in the Gaza Strip is due to the silence of the international community and the United Nations over the various suppression that Israel continues to carry out.

"The world must end double standards and defamation in assessing the conflict in Palestine. On the other hand, those who fight for freedom in their own country are called freedom fighters, while in Palestine those who are fighting for their homeland and justice, the world has branded them terrorists. This is clearly unfair," said Fadli Zon, Friday, October 13.

Fadli Zon called on the world to urge Israel to end its occupation and blockade of the Gaza Strip. He said, what is getting worse at the moment is when Israel cut off electricity, water, and all access is important to the Gazan people, including for hospitals where there are many babies in the incubator there.

"This is indeed a crime against humanity. This must be stopped. Safe humanitarian access must be prioritized immediately and without delay," he urged.

The DPR is committed to preparing regulations for the protection and management of the environment. As the largest archipelagic country in the world, Indonesia is proud to have abundant natural resources both on land and at sea. Our constitution mandates that all these potentials are intended for improving the standard of living and welfare of the community.

"We also continue to encourage green economy-based development in all national efforts to achieve SDGs. We also continue to strive to accelerate the energy transition. Indonesia has gradually abolished fossil fuel subsidies and started testing the carbon market," he explained.

Fadli Zon also reaffirmed his commitment to multilateralism. International cooperation is very important to encourage the sustainable use of global natural resources and to reduce environmental damage.

"The G20, as a major energy producer and consumer, can be a bridge for developing and advanced countries, accelerate energy transition processes, and strengthen global energy systems that are fair and sustainable in accordance with global agreements," added Fadli.
