SOLO - The Solo City Government, Central Java, has responded to complaints from traders regarding the lack of sales at Klewer Market over the past few years.
Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka said that one of the things that would be followed up was controlling car clothing traders who made consumers reluctant to enter the market.
"Yes, we will follow up later, yes, we will arrange it (car sales, ed.)," he said in Solo, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, October 3.
The City Government will coordinate with Satpol PP to follow up on the whereabouts of car traders.
However, complaints about the rise of online-based sales, he said, cannot be avoided because currently many consumers choose to buy goods by utilizing e-commerce.
"The sale (online) cannot be avoided," he said.
Chairman of the Klewer Market Traders Association, Tavip Harjono, said that currently online-based markets are dominated by traders from Beteng Trade Center (BTC) Solo.
According to him, traders in BTC Solo are still relatively new and young so that they are more tech literate, while most traders in Klewer Market are old, so they only rely on conventional sales.
Another factor is the proliferation of clothing traders using cars in Solo Square.
Traders with these cars are near the parking area so it is easier to reach consumers.
"The toughest competition is car traders. The number of car traders is hundreds, the turnover can reach billions of rupiah," he said.
