JAKARTA - Directorate General (Ditjen) of Immigration RI issued a gold visa subcategory of world figures for OpenAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Samuel Altman with a period of 10 years signed by the Director General (Dirjen) of Immigration Silmy Karim.

Altman is practically the first foreigner to get a visa goal after being promulgated at the end of last August.

He received the visa goal because he was included in the category of figures with an international reputation and was considered to be able to benefit Indonesia.

"There are several categories of gold visas apart from investment/investment, one of which is the gold visa given to figures who have an international reputation and can provide benefits for Indonesia," explained Silmy Karim in his statement quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 4.

Silmy explained that in obtaining the gold visa, the person concerned must be proposed by the central government agency.

Samuel Altman is a world figure, namely the CEO and co-founder of OpenAI, a research company and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the United States. Altman became the world's attention after the success of ChatGPT, an OpenAI product launched at the end of 2019.

In mid-June, Altman came to Indonesia to share knowledge about artificial intelligence. With this visa goal, Silmy hopes that Altman can contribute to the development of the use of artificial intelligence in Indonesia.

As a visa golden holder, Altman will be able to enjoy a number of benefits, including: inspection routes and priority services at the airport; stay longer; ease of entry and exit in Indonesia; as well as efficiency because there is no need to apply for a limited stay permit (ITAS).

According to the Director General of Immigration, the granting of visa golden to Altman is a concrete form of the role of the Directorate General of Immigration to make the development of an artificial intelligence ecosystem in Indonesia a success.

"Once we arrive in Indonesia, there is no need to apply for a limited stay permit at the immigration office. We will give the red carpet as a return on the resources they can provide to Indonesia," said Silmy.

Golden visa is a type of visa granted as the basis for granting residence permits within 5 years to 10 years with the aim of supporting the national economy.

The basis for the implementation of the visa golden policy is through the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Permenkumham) Number 22 of 2023 and Regulation of the Minister of Finance Number 82 of 2023.
