Puan Maharani Admits That The Performance Of The DPR Has Not Been Maximum

JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPR admits that the parliament has not been maximal in fighting for the aspirations of the people. However, he made sure that the DPR will continue to strive to provide the best through its functions and authorities.

At the Plenary Meeting of the 78th Anniversary of the DPR, Puan submitted the DPR RI Performance Report for the 2022-2023 Session Year. To the members of the council, she advised to socialize the DPR's performance report to all constituents in their respective constituents.

"The DPR realizes that it is not yet optimal in fighting for the aspirations of the people's needs it represents," said Puan at the Plenary Meeting of the DPR's 78th Anniversary at the Nusantara Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday, August 29.

"But the DPR hopes that the people in the regions will know that the DPR always continues to strive for the absorption of aspirations conveyed by the community and is followed up through the implementation of its duties, functions and authorities," continued the first woman who served as Chair of the DPR RI.

Puan also detailed the total number of aspirations and complaints received by the DPR for the past year, which was also recorded in the DPR RI Performance Report for the 2022-2023 Session Year. The aspirations and complaints of the public were conveyed in writing, both physically and online through the DPR RI website.

"From August 16, 2022, to July 25, 2023, the Indonesian House of Representatives has received the aspirations and complaints of the public as many as 4,603 physical letters and 255 letters through the website," explained Puan.

The aspirations and complaints were then forwarded to the relevant Council Apparatus (AKD) to be followed up. Puan then revealed a number of areas of problems that dominate the aspirations and complaints of the public.

That is the fields of Law, Human Rights and Security; Land and Agrarian Reform; Trade, Industry, Investment, and SOEs; Financial Economy; as well as Forestry, Environment, and Energy and Mineral Resources," said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

Furthermore, Puan explained the performance of the DPR in other matters. Including by submitting, granting approval or giving considerations/consultation to the Ambassador of the Sahabat State, and the Indonesian Ambassador to the Sahabat State.

The DPR also carries out its functions and authorities to approve the transfer of state assets and agreements that have broad and basic consequences for people's lives, as well as the election of public officials to state institutions.

"At this session, the DPR RI has discussed the appointment of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotential of Friends for the Republic of Indonesia as many as 37 countries. The DPR RI also provides Citizenship of the Republic of Indonesia (naturalization) to 7 sportsmen," explained Puan.

"The supervisory function of the DPR RI is also directed to improve the performance of the Government in completing people's affairs so that people's lives are easier and more prosperous," continued Bung Karno's grandson.
