Constitution Day, Puan Highlights Women's Rights And Peaceful Elections

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, reminded the importance of building a national law political civilization in order to realize the people's hopes on the commemoration of Constitution Day, August 18. She invited all parties to re-interpret the mandate of the 1945 Constitution which contained the ideals of Indonesian independence.

"The Constitution of the State, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, mandates that Indonesia is a state of law. Therefore, the law regulates the life of the nation and state," said Puan, Friday, August 18.

Constitution Day is a historic momentum in commemorating the existence of an Indonesian constitutional system, one of which is the 1945 Constitution which is the Indonesian constitution. On August 18 it was also the moment when Bung Karno and Bung Hatta were inaugurated as the first President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Puan then mentioned the statement of the Proclaimer and the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Sukarno, who called National Independence the Golden Bridge. Puan detailed that the golden bridge is called a bridge to a just and prosperous Indonesia.

"To make it happen, mutual cooperation is needed, in filling out community, nation and state spaces to jointly counter the people," he said.

Even so, social life is also important to regulate in the realm of regularity. In this case, the importance of legal regularity is part of the country's constitution in order to support stability in society.

"So let us build our national law political civilization with awareness and commitment that places Indonesia as a state of law," explained Puan.

Furthermore, Puan said the constitution is an important thing because the constitution describes Indonesia's spirit in order to realize the people's expectations.

"The people's hope is that their life will be easier, their welfare will increase, and will get convenience in public services," said Bung Karno's grandson.

Puan also emphasized the importance of fulfilling the constitutional rights of citizens. Including the right for citizens to get a space for people's participation.

"The constitutional rights guarantee the participation of the nation's citizens in actuating political rights, social rights, cultural rights, and economic rights. In fact, it also provides space for women to interpret in all fields," said Puan.

However, according to the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, women still face various obstacles stemming from social, cultural, economic and political life. Therefore, Puan emphasized the need for encouragement to strengthen the role of women.

"Moreover, the constitution also regulates the guarantee of women's human rights. Including guarantees for the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women who are mandated by the UN convention," said Puan.

"The fulfillment of women's rights in the constitution is very important considering that there are still many discriminations received by women, both physical, psychological violence, and discrimination in various other fields," he added.

For this reason, the DPR RI as an institution mandated by the constitution to carry out its duties and supervisory functions on the performance of the implementation of the Law (UU) and the Implementation of National Development organized by the Government ensures that it will always oversee the implementation of the fulfillment of the constitution to all citizens, including women's groups.

"Through the supervisory function, we continue to direct efforts to improve the government's performance in solving various people's problems, so that people feel the presence of the State to facilitate their lives," said Puan.
