Kemenparekraf Supports Local Game Intellectual Property Development

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy supports the development of intellectual property of local games as one of the economic sub-sectors that has great potential.

"The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will continue to support the development of local game IP (information), because this is a form of the creative economy sub-sector with great potential," said Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Angela Tanoesoedibjo, in an official broadcast, quoted from Antara, Thursday 17 August.

Angela expressed her support at the opening of the e-sport competition which targets the participation of 5,000 participants from various regions in Indonesia.

Based on data, in 2022 game transactions around the world will reach IDR 3,500 trillion, while in Indonesia alone the amount reaches IDR 30 trillion.

However, of this number, the majority of the games played by more than 175 million online/online game players in Indonesia are games from foreign developers.

Angela said the government pays great attention to the development of the country's game industry.

One of them is the finalization of the formation of a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) regarding the acceleration of the country's game industry which is currently being carried out.

This Presidential Regulation will be a legal umbrella or a strong legal basis in building a game ecosystem in Indonesia that is more inclusive, relevant, and more in favor of local and sustainable games.

"We are finalizing the presidential regulation of this game together with all ministries and institutions so that we can strengthen the game ecosystem in Indonesia and have sides with local players, this is very important," said Angela.

He hopes that the implementation of the "Ksatriya Mahardhika Student Championship 2023" can strengthen the development of the game industry in Indonesia, apart from being a form of promotion or cultural diplomacy in the country.

"I always believe that the combination of the creative economy and culture, if managed properly, can provide added value. Not only the added value of the economy but also the added value of national unity and also the values of diversity," said Angela.
