Celebrate the Independence Day, KAI Commuter Pasang Tarif Rp8 on August 17

JAKARTA - KAI Commuter presents a special rate of Rp. 8 for Commuter Line travel on August 17, 2026. This promo is given in order to enliven the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. The special fare applies to all Commuter Line service areas, except for the Commuter Line Basoetta.

KAI Commuter President Director Purnomo Sidi said the promo was a form of appreciation to the public as well as support for user mobility on the momentum of independence anniversary.

"This step is a form of appreciation and participation by KAI Commuter as part of the KAI Group in supporting government programs, facilitating community mobility at this special moment," said Purnomo in an official statement, Wednesday, August 12.

For users of the Jabodetabek Commuter Line and the Yogyakarta-Palur Commuter Line, the tariff of Rp8 can be enjoyed by making transactions using the Multi Trip Card (KMT) or other payment methods, starting from the first departure schedule to the last on August 17, 2026.

Meanwhile, users of the Commuter Line Local in the Merak, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya areas can make reservations or purchase tickets starting August 14, 2026 at 00.01 WIB until August 17, 2026 at 24.00 WIB, specifically for departure on August 17, 2026.

KAI Commuter projects that the number of users will increase during the application of the special tariff. In Jabodetabek, the number of users is estimated to reach 925,000 people, or an increase of 16 percent compared to the average holiday in 2026.

In Area 6 Yogyakarta, the number of users is projected to reach 34 thousand people or increase by 15.6 percent. Then Area 2 Bandung is estimated to serve 76,000 users or increase by 13.5 percent. Meanwhile, the users of the Commuter Line in Area 8 Surabaya are predicted to reach more than 52,000 people, or increase by 1 percent compared to the average working day.

To anticipate the surge in users, KAI Commuter has prepared additional train trips as well as service and security officers at a number of stations.

"Service and security officers will be deployed more, so that people's travel can run smoothly," said Purnomo.

Meanwhile, KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda said that the Commuter Line Jabodetabek service on August 17, 2026 will refer to the pattern of weekday travel operations.

KAI Commuter will operate 1,065 trips, more than 1,032 trips on holiday operating patterns. Meanwhile, the Yogyakarta Commuter Line will serve 31 trips, Merak Area 14 trips, 2 Bandung Area 57 trips, and Surabaya Area 50 trips.

In addition to adding trips, KAI Commuter also prepares security and service officers and additional facilities at the station.

Especially in Jabodetabek and Yogyakarta, blocking and queuing arrangements for the platform area will be implemented if there is a surge and accumulation of users.

KAI Commuter urges people who want to take advantage of the special tariff to ensure that the KMT balance is sufficient. Commuter Line Local users are also asked to make ticket reservations starting August 14, 2026.

Karina also reminded users who were bringing children to increase supervision while at the station or on the train.

"We hope that parents can ensure that children are always under supervision while in the platform area and on the Commuter Line journey. Give priority to users who will get off, and stand waiting behind the safe line," he concluded.
