Rice And Rice Production In Indonesia Is Not Perturbed By The El Nino Phenomenon

JAKARTA - The phenomenon of El Nino in Indonesia does not interfere with the production of rice and rice for farmers, so that the availability and price of food in the community is still maintained stable.

"Now we are experiencing water shortages, but Alhamdulillah we can still harvest," said Deputy Minister of Agriculture Harvick Hasnul Qolbi as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, August 5.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture stated that El Nino had not had an impact on the production of farmers' rice in Indonesia, after a working visit to witness the rice harvest of rice fields in Petaling Jaya Hamlet, West Bangka Regency, Friday, August 4.

"The results of our survey in each region are that our rice production is not disrupted because farmers are still harvesting even though they experience a lack of water for their agriculture," he said.

According to him, currently there are many problems faced by farmers in the country, including agricultural land with water shortages as a result of El Nino's climate change.

"Currently, Indonesia is facing El Nino, which is a weather phenomenon that occurs due to an increase in the surface temperature of water in the Central and East Pacific Oceans which are getting warmer than usual," he said.

Harvick Hasnul Qobli recommends farmers to be able to carry out various innovations in managing agriculture and changing the function of land in the use of existing land, in order to successfully face the challenges of El Nino's impact.

"We invite farmers to continue to innovate in managing agricultural land, in order to assist the government in maintaining stock stability and food prices during this political year," he said.
