JAKARTA - North Kalimantan (Kaltara) Governor Zainal A. Paliwang conveyed a number of strategic proposals to strengthen the creative economy sector to the Minister of Creative Economy (Menekraf) Teuku Riefky Harsya in an audience at the Ministry of Creative Economy office, Jakarta.

The governor, Zainal, explained the potential of Kaltara's creative economy which is supported by cultural wealth, young talent, and natural tourist destinations. He was accompanied by the Chairperson of the National Creative Economy Movement (Gekrafs) Kaltara Regional Leadership Council (DPW), Rahmawati Zainal.

One of the proposals submitted was the implementation of an Intellectual Property Safari to facilitate the registration of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for creative economic actors in Kaltara.

"Many of our musicians and designers have good works, but their intellectual rights have not been registered. It's a shame if their works are not protected," said Zainal, Wednesday, July 22.

In addition, the Provincial Government also proposed strengthening internet access in villages that have creative economic potential. According to Zainal, network limitations are still an obstacle for MSMEs and creative economy players in marketing products digitally.

"If the internet is strong, they can sell more widely, participate in online training, and grow faster," he said.

Another proposal is the construction of the Kaltara Creative House as a center for the activities of creative economic actors from five districts and cities in the province.

"We want there to be one big house for the creative economy of Kaltara," he said.

Governor Zainal also introduced a number of regional flagship agendas, such as Kaltara Begimpor and Benuanta Fest, as well as promoting the potential of the layered cave which has the uniqueness of stalactites and stalagmites that produce a tone when hit.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Culture, Teuku Riefky Harsya, welcomed the various proposals submitted by the Provincial Government of North Maluku. He assessed that this step shows the commitment of the region in building a creative economy ecosystem that includes the protection of works, capacity building for actors, provision of creative space, to strengthening access to digital marketing.
